Case Study: Colombo Law Society Website

Company: Colombo Law Society

Role: UX Design from the scratch, Content Management System, Continues Content Update Automatically, Faster Browsing Experience

Duration of Project: 1 – 2 Months

On July 25, 1975, the Colombo Law Society (CLS) was founded with the primary goal of protecting and advancing the interests of its members. CLS is the Bar Association of Sri Lanka’s most prominent and largest branch association.

Following our initial meeting with the Colombo Law Society, they had a clear understanding of the project’s requirements and scope. Since they had an official website that needed to be re-designed and re-developed with the capacity to automatically update publications and legal resources content, maintain content management, and provides a better UI design experience to stakeholders, they needed to re-design and re-develop it. Undeniably, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. It was an arduous journey of uncertainties. The reliability of a website is frequently judged only on its appearance. The phrase aesthetics is excruciatingly imprecise, subject to both personal preferences and trends, which means the whole user experience is even more crucial. It’s not easy to design an app because there are so many details to consider. It’s difficult to find the ideal balance between your clients’ requirements, consumers’ needs, stakeholders’ expectations, and development time. You must make some concessions and you are constantly pressed for time.

From a business standpoint, onboarding a user is a critical step since, aside from marketing, onboarding screens are the first impression your users have of you. In fact, a poorly designed user onboarding journey might cost your business a lot of money.

When we look at our UX design from scratch we had to comprehend that users are impatient individuals who have gone through the onboarding process numerous times with various apps. As a result, the more you can alleviate them of this load, the greater impression your app will make on them. As a result, when developing the user onboarding procedure, we aspired for our screens to be so fluid that our users would forget about them.

The following are some significant takeaways from this experience:

  • Even if you think you’ve covered every angle, you might be overlooking something. So, put your goods to the test.
  • The effects of the setting in which the user test is done should always be taken into account in the outcomes.
  • You’re never too busy to test.

Despite the fact that there are numerous content management systems (CMS) on the market, none of them precisely matched the objectives of our customers. Working in a newspaper and understanding the daily issues faced by journalists and editors, the project’s creator decided to create something absolutely unique.

The customer required a CMS built on six principles:

1. Speed – The solution must function flawlessly on modern devices, allowing editors and contributors to develop content without interruptions.

2. Simple UX – Light, simple to use, displaying options only when they are required, and not overcrowding the UI/UX.

3. Prioritize SEO – Search engine optimization is a very important factor for websites. In order for pages to rank higher, the CMS must provide all needed information to search engines.

4. An efficient Collaboration Tool – They required a reliable, dependable solution for several workers working on the same content from different locations.

5. Desk functionality – For example, advanced permissions and the ability to establish content statuses.

6. The ideal complement to the existing software complex – The new system should perform well and connect seamlessly with existing technologies.

As the project required a flexible approach and therefore New developments were continuously deployed to the cloud, so the result could be seen immediately. The prototype was completed after months of hard work. The team has created a new content management system (CMS) with a number of advanced capabilities, including:

  • Ability to operate with a variety of material types, including articles and bank accounts. We designed an architecture that allows new types of content to be added directly to the admin UI.
  • Additional content management and collaboration tools allow numerous editors to collaborate efficiently on the same piece of content.
  • Strong integration to ensure that search engines comprehend the material correctly.
  • Clean and fast UI to focus on the content, not on the UI itself.
  • Control access to system functions via user and role management.
  • Own templating system for controlling how content is displayed.

Companies must use real-time software deployment to expose features to users faster and shorten the feedback loop in order to deliver value to customers in real-time. This enables quicker responses and ensures that development is focused on features that add genuine value. Continuous delivery is a software development strategy in which software functionality is delivered to customers on a regular basis.

Content development also includes ensuring that the site’s content is appropriately formatted. This involves creating a content hierarchy for sites. There are a variety of methods for determining if combining web pages or adding new ones will increase a website’s market share and, as a result, its ROI. We analyzed and evaluated our clients on a regular basis, and our outcomes are both measurable and accountable.

Recognizing the importance of a speedier browsing experience as a link between the online and offline worlds, we embarked on a project to improve the site’s performance and usability. The brand’s site design and user experience weren’t thoroughly assessed for speed and conversion performance in the past. We began to evaluate the actual impact of browsing speed on important business metrics using data from Google Analytics and Google Ads Store.

The next stage was to analyze the site’s performance and find areas for technical improvements, such as picture size and asynchronous script loading, using Google’s Pagespeed Insights and Test My Site tools. These tools’ rankings reflect real-world site speed on mobile devices, and because slower sites are generally less usable, the findings are related to the quality of the user experience. We then started to revamp their site around the recommendations once we had the results. The Colombo Law Society now has a stronger picture of how to succeed in a browsing environment, thanks to such solid proof of the impact changes in speed and usability can have on customer results. The homepage and other portions of the website are now significantly faster, allowing for a better user experience.

Overall, this project was a massive undertaking that resulted in client happiness as well as company success!
